LONDON, UK — Aquavista Boat Sales has announced the sale listing of Elsie May, a 1915 Tjalk Dutch barge widely regarded as one of the finest houseboats currently available in the capital. Offered at £165,000 (offers over £180,000 invited), the vessel is moored at Aquavista’s award-winning Poplar Marina, adjacent to Canary Wharf, and is sold with a fully transferable residential mooring.
Built in Holland in 1915, Elsie May originally carried potatoes along Dutch waterways before conversion into a houseboat. Acquired by her current owner in December 2012, she has since undergone a comprehensive refit and redesign valued at nearly £350,000. Works included full closed-cell foam insulation of the hull interior, a raised roof, an extended wheelhouse converted to an office, new fresh-water and waste systems, a Kabola heating installation and a Victron inverter with leisure battery bank, together with bespoke double-glazed timber windows.
Accommodation comprises a wheelhouse office, a kitchen with quartz worktops, a living space capable of hosting a dozen guests and sleeping four, a full-size bathroom, a king-size principal cabin and a roof terrace. An independent surveyor has valued the vessel at £300,000 for insurance purposes; her BSC is valid to May 2027.
